Hostile Environment Awareness Training (H.E.A.T / H.E.T)

Overview: This course is aimed at close protection operatives and anyone who is responsible for the safety of others. It will provide delegates with a thorough grounding in the assessment and diffusion of potential hazards and is ideal close protection operatives who are based in volatile parts of the world.

Our tutors are all highly experienced in surviving and operating in extremely hostile environments and share their own personal experiences and tips for survival with delegates.

Objectives: The course provides an understanding of how to assess and respond to potential hazards which may occur as a course of hostilities. Core topics include:

  • Anti-hostage techniques
  • Kidnapping training
  • Anti-hijacking techniques and how to survive a hijack
  • Counter surveillance
  • Pre- deployment planning and travel awareness
  • IED Awareness
  • Personal protective defence
  • Terrorism
  • Vehicle and foot based contact drills
  • The use of firearms
  • First aid
  • Evasive and defensive driving techniques
  • Ambush drills

Live rounds are not used in the training for health and safety reasons within our U.K course but delegates can use dry-firing weapons to simulate a true real life scenario based experience. Within GY6’s specialist training Academy in South-Africa however we do use live ammunition.

The course involves an overnight stay designed to simulate the practical experience of working in a hostile environment. Delegates are advised to bring suitable clothing, personal equipment, snacks and sufficient water to sustain themselves for 30 hours.

Assessment Methods: This is an informal course without a recognised qualification. However assessment and feedback are provided throughout the course.

Course Duration: 3 days

Entry Requirements: The course is ideal with little or no experience of working in hostile environments and provides and insight into what working in this kind of environment would entail. It is also a great refresher course for those with previous of working in a hostile environment who are returning to work after an extended rest period.
