GY6 – GOT YOUR SIX means “I’ve got your back.” Comes from the old pilot system in which directions correspond to hours on the clock, where 12 o’clock is forward and 6 o’clock is behind. Thus anyone behind you is “at your six.”
Another way of saying “I’ve got you covered” or “I’m backing you up”.
Letting someone know that you’ll be around to help out or watch over them in any way you can.
Picture yourself at the centre of a clock face. The area directly in front of you would be 12:00. That’s your “twelve.” 06:00 is what lies behind you, the potential vulnerability you can’t see. On a battlefield, your 06:00 position is the most exposed. So, when someone tells you that they’ve “Got your 6” it means they cover your back…ALL THE WAY!!!
Why Do We Have your Six?
We got your six because we are willing to do the things you are not. We will fight against the odds. We will sacrifice. We are not shackled by fear, insecurity, or doubt. We feel those emotions drink them in and then swallow them away to the blackness of hell. We are motivated by accomplishment, not pride. Pride consumes the weak-kills their heart from within. If we fall, we will get up. If we are beaten, we will return. We will never stop getting better. We will never give up, ever.
You see, when a military man make up his mind to do something, he stick with it. He see it through.
That is why WE Got Your Six
