Overview: Since March 2006, it has been mandatory to have a license in order to work in Close Protection Operations in the UK. This can be obtained by successfully passing an approved course which meets the requirements of the Security Industry Authority (SIA). It is a requirement of SIA that all close protection courses last for a minimum of 150 hours.
Objectives: This intensive course meets the stringent requirements of the 2015 SIA training guidelines and includes the following core subjects:

- Use of close protection vehicle techniques
- Communication and conflict management skills
- Venue based security
- The roles and responsibilities of a close protection operative.
- Close protection teamwork
- Managing threats and risk assessment
- Operational planning.
- Surveillance awareness
- Law and legislation
- Emergency and trauma training
- Close protection foot techniques
- Route selection
- Search awareness
- Incidents and dilemmas
- Anti and counter surveillance
- Close quarter combat
- Weapon disarming
Assessment Methods: Based on classroom assessment and practical exercises, all sections of the course must be passed in order to obtain your SIA license.
Course Duration: 14 days
Entry Requirements: None, although a minimum of Level 1 or equivalent in English language and numeracy is recommended. Whilst no prior knowledge is required the course is extremely intense and so we recommend that careful consideration is given before applying to do this course.
Costs: £1,660 per delegate. To secure your place a deposit of £450 is required with the balance of being due prior to course commencement.
Certification: Upon successful completion of the course you will be awarded a Certificate in Close Protective Security accredited by Highfield Awarding Body for Compliance (HABC) and will be eligible to apply to SIA for a Front Line Close Protection Licence.
Employment Opportunities: Due to the high standards required to pass the SIA examination this means that anyone successfully completing the course will be able to apply for opportunities within the security industry whether in low risk work or areas with a high level of conflict.
